Galeria XX1 in Warsaw is a place with a unique history. Until 1964, it housed the studio of renowned Polish sculptor Xawery Dunikowski. Then, for over 30 years, the Galeria Rzeźby operated in this place, within the structure of SBWA. The turning point came in 2001, when Galeria XX1 began operating under its current name, within the structure of today's Mazovia Institute of Culture. Today, Galeria XX1 encompasses a wide range of art forms, organizing exhibitions and events.
I was invited to lead a comprehensive rebranding and then design a new website for the Gallery. A key element of the brief was addressing the existing visual context and the parent institution. An additional factor in the brief was the assumption that the formats should be implementable internally, not always with the help of graphic designers.
Based on the above guidelines, I created an identity framework that would easily provide a common visual identity for the diverse events. To give the artists’ works the highest priority on the formats, I decided not to include text or other graphic elements on them. This information is displayed on the formats using a solid-colored area (the label), selected from the company's palette. All typography is designed in the geometric yet warm Euclid Square typeface.
The result of this collaboration is a complete visual identity, along with a brand book containing tips and recommendations useful in solving current design challenges. This brand book served as the basis for the Gallery's website design and templates for various print formats (posters, placards, citylights, invitations, brochures, artwork captions, and prints for the Gallery's windows) and digital formats (indoor and outdoor advertising, WTP, social media, and video). I prepared each format as a convenient template with print presets, allowing for efficient implementation by non-designers.
