When I was a child, the Wars, Sawa and Junior department stores were a special place for me on the map of Warsaw. Full of people, foreign goods and brands, but above all equipped with escalators (in the 1980s in Warsaw they were only in a few places). I remember more than one trip with my grandfather, during which we didn't buy anything, but we drove them dozens of times until I let us go home.
In elementary school, Junior was the place where I listened to records from abroad and overseas. In high school, the floor in the architecture and art book section was mine - every day after school I read everything I couldn't afford to buy there. Therefore, although trade and access to culture have undergone a complete transformation in the meantime, the building of the Wars Sawa and Junior department stores occupies a unique position in my heart.
So I did not hesitate for a moment when I was offered the realization of motion typography for a film about Wars Sawa Junior and its surroundings. I set the whole thing in strong colors, consistent with the current brand identity of WSJ and dynamic, music video montage. I based the lettering on the reliable Neue Haas Grotesk, perfectly reflecting the spirit of the 60s, in which the WSJ buildings were designed.
